Starting Fires is an Atlanta-based indie rock group formed in 2011. The band combines a slick harmony-laden pop sensibility with a dramatic flare framed through many hours of AP lit courses, Cirque du Soleil shows, and several lifetimes of inside jokes between and betwixt each other.

Friends since elementary school, the idea of a band began as something of a middle school joke among its members, Viviana Carrasco, Siobhan Britt, Katherine Beals and Taylor Bryant. As music-worshippers with tastes ranging from the popular (Coldplay), to the quirky (Bombay Bicycle Club), and on through to the obscure (Delta Rae), the band began work on both covers and original tunes and playing live shows around the Atlanta metro area in 2012. Soon the fun and adventure of live performances combined with a “Beatles awakening” and helped the “joke” transition into a full-fledged passion.

After the first month of playing out, the band cast aside its four acoustic guitars in favor of some variety with Katherine on lead guitar, Siobhan on piano/guitar/vocals, Vivi on guitar/piano/vocals, and Taylor holding down bass. The band teamed with drummer Jason Monseur (Jungol, The Electric Sons) for a sold-out show at Smith’s Olde Bar’s Atlanta Room in February 2014. The band is planning a fuller slate of live performances in the summer of 2014 including a return gig to Smith’s, as well as dates at Matilda’s Under the Pines and the Alzheimer’s Music Fest at 120 Tavern and Music Hall.

The band began work with Alpharetta-based indie label Highway 9 Records in an artist development role in 2014 and has plans to complete a studio project before the end of the year.
